Diversityklok is such a heartbreaking episode if you watch it after DSR.

No yeah I agree, fuck he probably started thinking in Doomstar that they were happy Magnus took him, beccause of how much they sort of did ignore him or just get annoyed at him for being needy and clingy with them. Plus in that picture he’s in back because he was the last one in their group so he knew them the least amount of time so they don’t see him the same way they see each other.
OH AND ANOTHER THING. A journalist asks Nathan “Where is what’s-his-face”. This is what he calls Toki in Partying Around the World D:
Oh yeah, they didn’t mention his name at all until they decided to go look for him. Like the WHOLE fucking show they legit say he’s their brother and he is like their kid or whatever and then in Doomstar he’s just that random younger guy who lives with them and they don’t want to think about if he’s dead or not. Like it’s really harsh on their part even if they do just want to not face the fact their friend might be dead.
That’s because they were high and drunk and trying to forget/avoid their feelings about the loss of Abigale and Toki.
What’s really sad about Metalocalypse as a whole is the fact that the band treats Toki like crap a lot of the time. When he’s let back into the band he’s given no reason, just a ‘meh’ while Murderface gets a reason. In the pic he’s pushed to the back and looks distressed. Hell, they do this all the time. They treat him like garbage and then wonder why he has bouts where he becomes violent and incredibly passive aggressive.
As always I agree with you a thousand percent. They were all close as fuck with Magnus most likely because they knew him very well he was a friend they all had in common with each other and then he started being a dick and beating on Pickles and Skwisgaar and saying it was his band then attacked Nathan. It would be weird cutting full contact with somebody you’re that close to and now having to replace them. Then the fact they replaced Magnus with a 16 year old homeless Norwegian kid from the streets who came from a horribly abusive home. I mean none of them know how to handle their own issues with their families or depression or bipolar disorder or anxiety other than drinking and getting stoned then they get a freaking teenager who doesn’t know a lot of shit and is needy and has manic depression. I mean they can’t take care of somebody like that.
So they sort of just ignored him and like they said at the end of season two when he was getting drunk a lot cause he was hearing voices and was really fucked up and scared they said they weren’t going to worry about it, he’s fine and then just decided to say he was just being an asshole. That’s it. No actual wondering just “he’s an asshole”.
They don’t get how Toki can’t do what they do. They can be alone and they can just get trashed and pretend they’re totally fine, but he can’t. Maybe it is because he’s what twenty-four at the oldest or some shit, but he can’t and doesn’t want to. Even when Pickles told him it was gay to be sad he still spent like th erest of the episode with that picture of Charles and being sad, because he can’t just shut it off or cry in a dark room like they do. He’s openly emotional which is good, but then they tell him to not do that which leads to him hurting himself in any way he can find and leads to them wondering what the fuck is wrong with him other than actually asking and trying to help.
He’s sort of just always new with their group, he’s been there for years but he’s still sort of like their old brother’s replacement and he knows that and it’s got to hurt like Hell.
Hmmmmmmmm….what if they treated Toki so poorly because they were afraid of him turning into another magnus?
what if the whole magnus fiasco is the reason why they made the ‘no caring’ rule so they could possibly prevent hurt feelings and that if Toki did end up like Magnus then they wouldn’t feel as bad if they had to strike back and kick him out.
but that also backfired badly because - as you pointed out - Toki is an emotional and caring person who loves everyone around him. They don’t know how to act or they might be trying to kill that without even realizing it so that Toki might become a more ideal person that they can understand and interact with.
if that’s the case then holy shit are they dicks. D:
I actually have had that as a head canon for some time, I mean it would be scary. Toki said Skwisgaar used to compliment him and be really nice to him then all of a sudden he wasn’t? What if the others had a ‘intervention’ with Skwisgaar and told him to stop being so nice to Toki because he could turn out like Magnus and it would suck less if they just treated the kid like shit so if he turned out like that then y’know no big deal and that’s part of the reason Skwis is such a prick to him now y’know except when he’s freaking out anytime Toki talks about killing himself or anything like that cause he does love his little brother.
I think Nathan made up the no caring rule, he always seems to stress so baldy with feelings posibly because he is autistic or something else along those times. It affects how you see and feel things so it might have freaked him so badly he got scared to feel about his band mates or at least Toki. They are pretty open about caring about each other to their own degrees, but they just distance Toki because he could end up like Magnu and that’s scary as hell.
Like I always say they are assholes, even Toki is sort of an asshole but he’s still really really fucking young so it’s sort of due to his environment. But yeah they are unintentional dicks. They through the whole show do and say things to hurt each other especially Toki, but usually they end up not being able to handle hurting their friends. Like Nathan couldn’t stand the band ending cause he didn’t want to lose Pickles over some chick. Then Skwisgaar not wanting to lose Toki just cause of some stupid guitar solo or the numerous times they treat Murderface like shit but then end up half ass making up for it cause he is their friend even if he’s an asshole most of the time.
They for sure want Toki to be more like the rest of them and possibly in some way they don’t know how to handle somebody caring about them. Well Nathan can he had the most normal childhood which is why he sort of just straight up acts like he could be Toki’s father most of the time. The others though come from either no parents and crazed grandparents, a whore mom who brings in creepy guys constantly, and parents who prefer one sociopathic son over their son who is honestly trying. So to get basic psychology for a moment; people like that being one myself don’t really believe they deserve to be cared about or loved or shown honest genuine affection. They just have this constant desecrated feeling, Toki had the worst upbringing imaginable like the kind of shit you hear on the news every now and again kind of shit. Yet he repressed a lot and has obvious frustration and rage, but he isn’t really angry at anybody. Hell even just telling Skwisgaar in season one that he hates him Skwisgaar just usually replies like really calmly and sort of like he’s trying to get him to calm down or whatever by always saying he knows or saying okay, because he knows Toki is just frustrated that he can’t be like him or as good as him and it gets on his nerves.
You get people who have problems with affection and caring about themselves then giv them someone who genuinely cares about them despite every god awful thing they do or say or think to that person or to anybody including themselves. They don’t knwo how to handle that, it scares the fuck out of them. They can’t really return it, because they don’t know how to and don’t really want to know how because they’ve taught themselves that caring is gay and stupid.
So it’s like they are complete assholes, but they don’t mean to.
I actually think that Skwisgaar becoming meaner to Toki was less about the rule and more because he’s intimidated and jealous. Toki’s on par with him and he doesn’t even bother to practice when Skwisgaar leaves we see that Toki easily is able to play all of his parts.
Skwisgaar is afraid of Toki becoming better than him which is why he puts him down constantly. If he keeps saying that he’s shit then Toki will stop practicing and never improve. It’s all rather sad.
Nathan most def made up the no caring rule. He’s the leader and he’s the one everyone looks to when it comes to band matters.
It’s actually kinda tragic cus they kinda do have a Magnus in the band - Skwisgaar. Magnus treated his rhythm guitarist like shit and Skwisgaar does the same, they are both uber proud and both massive dicks.
The band most def has problems due to their upbringing. Unfortunately this has created the worst environment for Toki to have been placed in. Drugs, drinking and violence. Went from one extreme to the other.
I think a lot of Toki’s mental breakdowns are caused by this shift in environment and the inability to handle and process all the new information. when he was in Lilyhammer he only knew abuse and thus that’s what he probably saw as the norm - ‘all parents are like this’. But once he’s in Dethklok he sees that, that is not the case and that people are treated well and nicely….but he’s still treated like shit. And he doesn’t know why he’s so different.
By season 5 I think the no caring rule will probably be gone. Or at least I hope so.
I’m sure it will be gone, even though many people think the nature and humor of the show will be negatively affected. Something had to die to let the show (and the boys) mature, and I’m positive that season 5 will be completely different. Violence will still be a main topic, but the no caring rule will most likely be replaced by their awkward attempts at being caring brothers :D
